PAHs introduction
PAHs introduction
PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), linear is composed of two to seven different chemical structures of benzene ring, angular or a ball shape. Mainly due to incomplete combustion of carbon containing compounds or in the process of using fossil fuels. The currently known PAHs more than 100 above, by the United States Environmental Protection agency listed under the control of the PAHs is 16 (as follows):
■Naphthalene |
■Benzo(a)anthracene |
■Acenaphthylene |
■Chrysene |
■Acenaphthene |
■Benzo(b)fluoranthene |
■Fluorene |
■Benzo(k)fluoranthene |
■Phenanthrene |
■Benzo(a)pyrene |
■Anthracene |
■Indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene |
■Fluoranthene |
■Dibenzo(a,h)anthracene |
■Pyrene |
■Benzo(g,hi)perylene |
PAHs restrictive measures
Consumer products (food contact materials, materials that will be inserted into the mouth, toys and baby care products), the PAHs limit is as follows:
parameter |
of the same class |
second-class |
three types |
Food contact material or toys for children under 3 years of age |
Regular and skin contact parts, contact time of more than 30 seconds, toys not covered in the 1 category
|
Occasionally contact parts, less than 30 seconds in contact with the skin, or parts that have no contact with the skin |
BaPmg/kg |

20 |
16 item PAHs sum mg/kg |

|
If the test result is greater than a class but conforms to the two limit, then according to migration test DIN EN 1186 and LFBG 80.30-1 64 were tested to confirm the test results.
Other restrictions on PAHs
The German food and commodity law (Lebensmittel und Bedarfsgegenstandegesetz-LFGB) (German Food Commodity and Feed Law) thirtieth section formulated the allowable value of PAHs:
parameter |
Plastic, often fixed contact parts, that is, contact time will be more than 30 seconds of components (such as handle, steering wheel, etc.) |
Plastic, occasionally contact parts, i.e. parts with contact time less than 30 seconds
|

20mg/kg |

10mg/kg |
200mg/kg
|
The detection limit is 0.1 mg/kg, and if the material is detected below 0.1 mg/kg, it is considered as ND (not detected), (GS, Mark's quantitative limit is 0.2 mg/kg)
EU Directive on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (2005/69/EC)
Member of the European Parliament and the EU signed in November 16, 2005 in Strasbourg France polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon 2005/69/EC directive is the twenty-seven revision of directive 76/769/EEC, and officially take effect in January 1, 2010. The EU 2005/69/EC directive to add oil to add oil on the market or for the manufacture of tires should be consistent with the:
- BaP content is lower than 1 mg/kg
- 8 PAHs (BaP, BeP, BaA, CHR, BbFA, BjFA, BkFA, DBAhA) the total content of less than 10 mg/kg
